Being in a long distance relationship has many perks. One of them includes traveling to your partner's hometown or going on a holiday together. When you finally decide on a time to meet or go on a holiday, planning in advance helps! After months or even years apart, you would want to make every moment and second count. Having a good itinerary really helps make your trip easier and save you so much grief (and fights with your partner). Don booked his flight to see me a month in advance. That gave me plenty of time to plan out our trip!

Mutually decide on a location
It can be a little overwhelming to choose a country where you want to go. Don and I debated on going to Bangkok or Cambodia. I have been to Bangkok many times while Don hasn't. We both have not been to Cambodia. It should make sense that Cambodia would be the country we visit, but no. Don's best friend is working in Thailand and it'll be nice to visit and spend some time with him. Also, I can show him around the places I have been and eat good Thai food! Little details like this can also be a reason to visit a country you've been.
Time you want to plan to visit
Do some research on the period you are visiting the country. Check out if there is a festival or a national event happening. These events will hike up prices for tourists and the places you want to visit might be full of tourists, making it very unpleasant to visit. Also, check out for weather time! You don't want to visit when it's pouring rain, or having unpredictable weather.
Research Research Research
Before planning my itinerary, I sit down for a few hours to research everything I need to know about the country. I read blogs from locals. Scroll Instagram. Read travels websites. It gives me an idea to see what is new in the country and map out my itinerary from there.
Plan your itinerary
This is the tricky part. Planning an itinerary can be annoying, but trust me, it's really helpful to have one. It ensures you see and do everything you planned. You don't have to do a full blow itinerary but just one as a rough guide. When we were in Bangkok, there were many places where we ventured in because it was there. One of the apps I used when planning the trip is Tripomatic. All you have to do is create a new trip, key in your travel dates and then add in the places, restaurants according to the days you will be there. The best thing about this app is that it tells you how far the locations are from each other. You can either visit either by walking or take a cab to your attraction. We did a WHOLE lot of walking in Bangkok.
I think the best adventures happens when you least expect it. Have an itinerary as a guide, but let the city or country you are visiting guide you. Make friends with the locals. Eat what the locals eats. Last but not least, HAVE FUN! You're on a holiday! Relax and have an amazing time!
