Bourjois Blushes Review

Sunday, 27 July 2014

These little pot of love are one of my favourite blushers. I first discovered Bourjois on a family trip to Jakarta like how i fell crazy in love with NYX. Haha, i came home from that trip a really happy girl. These timeless blusher have been around for a long time. There are pigmented, silky and it is slightly perfumed. What really sold me about this blusher is the packaging. Its small, compact, comes with a brush and a mirror.

1. Bourjois Blush 16 Rose Coup De Foudre
2. Bourjois Blush 92 Santal
3. Bourjois Blush 03 Brun Cuivre
4. Bourjois Blush 35 Lune D'or

There is a reason why Blushingkay is called blushingkay! I love blushes! I am always reapplying my blusher because i have this need to have colour on my face. Having a compact blusher with everything (brush + mirror) is ideal blusher for me. This blush is one of the most iconic blushes! It has been around for almost 150 years. I actually bought 6 shades, but gave away 2 because i thought i was being a little greedy. Nonetheless, these Bourjois babies are the ones i take everywhere and use most.

The texture and formula for these babies are beautiful. It somehow melts easily on my face giving me that natural wind-in-my-face-rosiness HAHA! The formula definitely holds up, i find that it can last around 6-7 hours before i need to re-apply.
I do find the formula a little dry where after a while the top bit forms a layer where i have to scrape the top off to get some colour on my brush.

Camera: LCA+ Film: Kodak 400

Chopped 4 years of my life. I have been thinking about cutting my hair for the longest time and finally decided to just cut it off. What do i have to lose? My ends were dry as a bone and it was becoming a hassle to maintain it. Hair will grow and nothing wrong with pampering yourself at the saloon. I admit, I was a little heartbroken when i saw my hair on the floor but i decided to look at it in a way - i finished school for good and i am starting fresh. Im moving on to the next step in my life with cute hair and a cute boy.

Sukin Skincare Range Review

Friday, 18 July 2014

Sukin is an organic all natural skincare brand from Australia. The best thing about them is that they are free from bad skin irritants like sulphates and parabens. It is suitable for all skin types and made most natural ingredients such as rose hip oil and aloe vera. It was towards my last stay in Perth, i started breaking out from stress from writing, bad eating habits and too much alcohol. I noticed my skin getting a bit dry and peeling.

I decided to try the Sukin Skincare range. I was really lucky because at that time, the brand was on sale and i got them at a really good price which i cant remember now (sorry guys!) but even before discount, Sukin doesnt break your bank. Each bottle at 125ml each cost AUD9.95.

I particularly LOVE the Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser. It washes off everything (make up, dirt, oil and etc) and it smells of orange! I love anything that smells of oranges. It definitely leaves my face cleaner and fresher. My bottle is half way through and i have to wait a few months before i got back to Perth to re-stock.

If you read my post about toners; you would know that the Hydrating Mist Toner is made for me! Its such a convenient little invention. I am not a big fan of putting toner on cotton pad and wiping it all over my face, just too much time. By far, this Hydrating Mist Toner is one the best toners i used. My skin acted up during winter in Perth, it was dry and itchy. I kept rubbing my face, it become red and irritated. The Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner really helped calm my face down and soothe my itchiness.

The Sukin Facial Moisturiser is the only one i have mixed feelings for. It worked really well for me when i was in Perth. The texture of the moisturiser is quite thick, almost lotion like. Using it here in KL was a hot mess. The moisturiser felt so heavy on my face that it become uncomfortable. I find myself half way through the night washing my face again and using my Kiels Midnight Recovery Oil. Ill save it for when my skin acts up. No doubt, if you have really dry and sensitive skin, this moisturiser will be great for you. The packaging annoys me a little...it comes in a pump bottle, where sometimes you might accidentally press out too much product. Whatever leftover product, i would rub it in at the back of my hands.

Three weeks into using this range, my skin improved tremendously. The spots cleared up and my overall complexion brighten up as well. I think it being an organic and all natural skincare definitely helped. It has definitely help calm, soothe and clear up my skin. If you are ever in Australia and have sensitive skin, i would recommend you pick this up!

Really lucky to have housemates from south of Western Australia this year. During the easter break, a few of us went down to Albany to visit Stephen! The 5 hours journey down south was pretty interesting with 7 people in the car with different taste in music. I had to listen to Linkin Park for a good one hour. Stephen took us to the beach, a whiskey distillery, the natural bridge and viewpoints. I fell in love with Albany. Albany is such a beautiful town, rich with history.

Nikon FM2 and NikonF90x

Wednesday, 16 July 2014

I spend a good amount of time and energy the past few days going through all my high school memorabilia. What do you do with your medals and trophies from when you were 13-14-15-16? Do you still keep them? I found my old high school diaries and goodness!! They were so cringeful! How was it possible that i was 'in-love' at 15 years old!! And reading letters my first boyfriend gave me was...horrible, only because we are friends now and to see him that way again was GROSS! I did a whole detox and threw them all out. Making way for new things and new memories :)

The one thing i noticed most when i was cleaning out my room was - i had so many (printed) photos (that i took over the years) all over my room. I never realised how much i was into photography. I wasn't really into like real photography where people take account in their lighting, iso and etc, but more into moments. All my photos were the typical Kodak moment. I don't know what happened along the way, i stopped taking photos.

But so glad i decided to get back into it and start shooting. In the midst of cleaning, i was also thinking about my getting next camera. I have been reading photo blog from Singapore, she is using a Nikon Fm-10. She takes awesome travel photos of ALL the places i want to visit in Asia. Cambodia, Krabi, Vietnam just to name a few. Such a wonderful camera, takes honest, grainy and sharp photos. Of course, i did my research and couldnt help but think... I have seen this camera before!

I found my dad and asked him...

Daddy, what happen to all your old slr camera?
Its in the top cupboard in my room
*runs to get it*

Lo and behold!

New found love: Nikon FM2

My dad has the Nikon FM2 . The moment i saw it in his camera bag, my eyes has hearts in them. <3 <3 <3 <3 Manual only semi pro SLR film camera! I didnt know he had this camera!! I love the thrill of trying to figure out ISOs to take certain pictures and making sure i have enough light. Its a pretty sturdy camera and can definitely be used as a paper weight but i wont of course! My dad still has film in the camera from god knows how many years ago, i am pretty keen on finishing the roll and seeing what my dad took years ago.

Nikon F90x

My dad still has the manual for this camera dated 2001, i was 11 years old! This is the camera i remember seeing him use and taking pictures of the family especially me. I spend a lot of my younger years with my dad following him traveling all over Asia. I can easily say before i was 12, i have been to all South East Asia countries - except Brunei, East Timor and the Philippines. Dad was based in Bangkok, Thailand for a few years and work always had him travelling. I have pictures of me on/with elephants/tigers/snakes/monkeys, running around temples, eating, running across fields and me sulking because i was either told off to stop running around or i was hot. Sadly, i was too young to appreciate all the travels, which is why i want to re visit these places again. When i opened the camera bag, a wave of nostalgia came over me... I was a lucky kid.

I am going to get films, batteries and start using these cameras out!

Organised Mess

Bukit Damansara

Been trying to organise my room ever since i got back and failing miserably. For starters, I have so many clothes that my cupboard (mind you...my dad designed the cupboard for his two daughters to share) is FULL. Some are brand new, worn once or just forgotten. I have officially put myself on a NO-SHOPPING ban for a month. Besides clothes, i have so many books and random trinkets around my room which makes up the clutter!

New rules for myself:

1. I am not allowed to bring Magazines in my room.
2. I am only allowed to buy 5 books or less from Big Bad Wolf 2014
3. Every month i will donate/give away clothes. For every clothes i buy, i have to get rid of 3 clothes.
4. Every week i have declutter my desk including drawers. (Its amazing how much junk i just stuff in my desk drawers!)
5. I will alternate ALL my necklaces and wear them daily.
6. I will use ALL my Make up and not keep them for good days.

I have an excessive amount of things in my room. I am on a mission to declutter and make my room as minimal as possible. As much as i say i am not sentimental, i have to stop being sentimental and just throw things out!

Wish me luck!

Always

My Favourite Spot in Curtin University
My Pertie (Perth Bestie)

Its been a good overwhelming past few days for me. I have been so blessed with good opportunities that it seems freaking unbelievable! I was so worried that i was going to hate coming back home but so far, everything has been in place for me, except the one thing i really want, but you don't always get what you want.

The three pictures above are my foundation in Perth. The house i lived in, the reason why i was there and the person who went through the journey with me. It is so weird moving back to my room in KL and not have this feeling that i have to go back to Uni in a few weeks time. Its funny how when i first came to Perth, i disliked it. I couldn't wait to finish my course, go back to KL and start working. I was so used to KL's hectic lifestyle that i didn't know how to appreciate Perth's laid back lifestyle. Now, i love it and want a future there. Pertie says its karma for us for complaining early on how much we hated it and now we have to go back. But I believe there is always a reason to why things happen. #imissperth #sadface #missdonmore

Rory

The thing about film photography is you will never know what you will get. I did a rookie move by forgetting to decompress my film when i was winding it and the film tore! This was my precious LCA+ film where i designed my shots and pictures of my last week in Perth. I was so heartbroken and upset at myself for forgetting such a crucial move! I tried consoling myself by saying i am still learning about the camera, mistakes happen! After going to two film shops that couldn't process the film and calling up film shops asking if they can process torn film, finally - Bang Bang Geng in Publika said they could!!!!

So much sadness in a picture
The minute i stepped in the shop, i was in photography/film awe! It was every film photographer's dream. I explained to the shopkeeper which i think was the owner and he was optimistic about processing the torn film, he said, "yeah can be done, no problem!"

When will it be done? -> cue impatience Khaira who wants her photos asap.
In a couple of days, I will send you a text

Which he did a few days later, this added service where they text you to tell you, your photo is ready for pick-up won me over.

This afternoon I went to pick up my film, all excited to see my new photos! When I arrived to the shop, I asked owner - Can my film be processed?? Was it okay to process with the torn film?? He shook his head! The picture above, Chelsea's boyfriend Rory was only one exposure that was processed and the rest of my film were blank which means that i didn't take any photos or the shutter on my camera is faulty (i hope not!) In the midst of explaining to me what could have happened, i think he saw my face fell and the sadness. He only let me pay for the processing fee which was RM8 and even gave me a film to test out my camera. HOW KIND OF HIM!!! I am definitely going back to him to do all film processing! I was so overwhelmed by his kindness that i didn't get upset that i lost my car in the car park. I always get lost in Publika's car parking!! This is not the first or second or the third time. :(

FOTD: Clinique Fresh Bloom Blush in Peony (Review)

Wednesday, 9 July 2014

Left to Right: Urban Decay Eyeshaow Primer Potion, Clinique  Fresh Bloom Blush Allover Colour in 06 Camellia, Nyx Matte Lipstick in Nautral, Nyx Eyeliner pencil in Tropical green and Real Techniques Blush Brush

On really lazy days, i skip my foundation and concealer routine all together and just put on my blusher, eyeliner and lipstick.

I am starting to love, like big big love terracotta-ish coloured blush, i used to steer away from colours like that and stick to coral, soft pink and mauve-rosey colour. Now, i cant get enough of the colour and rotate between my Clinique Fresh Bloom Blush Allover Colour and Bourjois Santal

The Clinique Fresh Bloom Blush gives an all in one colour and super pigmented. All you need is two swipe on each cheek and it will last you for a good few hours! A little goes a long way. The colour complements my skin tone so well that it also contours my cheeks giving me the Angelina Jolie hallow cheeks. Haha! Try having high cheek bones with chipmunks cheeks, you would do anything to make it look less...Alvin-like. The blush gives me a glow that looks natural. It goes well with my favourite my-lips-but-better lipstick from Nyx. To add a cool factor to my look, i wear coloured eyeliner! There is nothing more amusing then going out with green eyeliner and have people staring or asking you if you are wearing green eyeliner like its the coolest thing on earth. HAHA!

Khaira, are you wearing *green* eyeliner?!
Yes
Cool!

Michel Mercier Detangler Brush Review

Sunday, 6 July 2014

I dont know what took me so long to get myself a detangling brush, but i am so glad i did! I got the Michel Mercier Detangler Brush! They cater to different types of hair - Normal, Fine and Thick hair. I got the blue one for thick hair. Read more about my hair type here.

Especially now with my bleached blonde highlights, tangles are inevitable. I have to sleep in braids or braided pigtails so i would wake up with an organised tangle. There are more time than i would like to admit where i am near tears in trying to battle my knots and tangles with my paddle brush. So, I was pretty excited to try it and boy, it worked. Getting this brush is on my best investment list. This brush works well with both wet and dry hair!

Its a plastic hollow brush with fine bristles. What I love most about it is the large handle, it makes it so easy to grip and brush through my tangles. It has to be one of the easiest hair tool i have, all you have to do its just brush! Whenever i brush through my hair, it doesn't feel like i am breaking my ends, like how it is with my paddle brush. It takes me less than 5 minutes to brush through. I would apply my Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment, after for some shine and moisture. You have no idea how i love running my fingers through my hair after! I am constantly touching it!

Me acting cool to people staring at me
I am trying to slowly be natural in front of the camera. I am such an awkward turtle!! Especially when i take OOTDs shots in public, goodness, people STARE at you! While i was taking these shots, the hall way of One World Hotel was empty and out of the blue... a group of people walked in and Khaira turns into an awkward turtle. Please dont look at me >.<

Top: Ally
Boyfriend Jeans: Target
Necklace: Diva
Shoes: Clarks
Handbag: Vintage Coach
How i would describe my style would be minimalist and comfortable. Jeans are my least favourite pair of pants because i can never find one that fits right. I only started wearing jeans this year and even more during winter in Perth. I wanted to document this OOTD for three reasons;

#1 - I have been wearing these boyfriend jeans almost every day this week, big achievement for me.
#2 - I am wearing a crop top! I don't like showing my midriff because my tummy is not the flattest! It took me the longest time to be comfortable in a bikini and now with a little help from Yoga, Futsal and just watching what i eat, i feel a little more confident. *high 5 to self*
#3 - I am wearing wedges, i avoided wearing height to go out because the guy i used to date was just a few inches taller than me and i dont think it is romantic to be taller than your boyfriend (LOL). My next mission is to invest in timeless heels and not care if I'm too tall.

i kept looking at the left because there was a bunch of people looking at me looking at them, HAHA!

Circle / Bon Anniversaire ma cheri <3
We had a lovely dinner at La Vie en Rose, a french restaurant in KL to celebrate Laila's birthday. We went after breaking fast to avoid the traffic jam coming in KL. No one was at home to break fast with me, all i had was a drink and banana bread, by the time we got to the restaurant, i was starving!!!! And i am clueless with french food, Je ne sais pas la cuisine francaise! i told Dahlia i would order whatever she ordered, we both had Lamb Tajine (which isnt french, more like Moroccan). I swear the Banana Leaf girl in me is too strong. Nasi and Curry any day! This dinner was the perfect end to my one week back in KL. Im loving the twin towers behind our group picture!

Top: Temt
Skirt: Target
Belt: Nash's
Shoes: Zara
Bag: Chanel
My favourite piece from my outfit is my skirt! Better picture here. This skirt was an impulse buy from Target! I saw it on the rack, picked out my size and went to pay without even thinking of how i was going to style it or why i wanted it. It worked out for me because i love the cutting and will definitely be featuring it more on this blog.

Kim Kim

Kim Kim, Faldo and Dave
Khaira

Camera: LCA+
Film: Kodak 400 ISO
Flash: Coloursplash flash

These are my first few shots from my LCA+. I am truly impressed with the camera's quirks and flaws. I am not a big fan of Coloursplash flash because the colour filter is too hard on the subject, like the first picture of Kim Kim. But the contrast between the background and Kim Kim is so vivid that i am starting to love the flash.

My LCA+ is always with me now. My friends are getting a bit annoyed at me for taking photo of them. I went to the Ramadan Bazaar (a bazaar that sell all sorts of Malaysian food for people to break fast with), i looked like a tourist holding two cameras #whocares #youwillthankmelater. I dug up my first fisheye camera, found that i still have film in it from over a year ago and i completely forgot about them. I just send 3 rolls of film to the shops and i cant wait to pick them up. Its going to be a pleasant surprise!
