5 Racist Things I Have Said To My White boyfriend

Monday, 28 September 2015

I come from Malaysia where it's a melting pot of culture, race, and traditions. A culture integrated of Malays, Chinese, and Indians. Culture clashes often happen, but rarely. When it comes to racism, it's the sort of thing where it's okay for a mother to call her kid "naughty" when they have done something mischievous but NOT okay when other mothers call her kid "naughty". Same for me, it's totally fine for my (Chinese or Indian) friends to call me a stereotype of my race BUT totally not cool if someone else does it. I often forget that Don and I are from two different cultures because we have very similar beliefs, personal goals that have nothing to do with culture. Once in a while, my Malaysian honesty comes out... in the form of foot in the mouth way. Here are five racist things I said to my Australian boyfriend.

20 Things We Did When Don Was in Malaysia

Wednesday, 23 September 2015

Whenever I have one of those days where I miss Don a lot more than usual, I would look through photos of us together. I have a folder on my phone of photos of us only. It's been a month++ since he was last here in KL with me. Time flies so fast when we're together but move so slow when we're apart. While going through our photos, I realised that I didn't write anything about his trip here and what we did. I was so caught up with missing him after he left that I forgot to blog about his stay here. I had planned months before to write about all the things we were going to do for document sake, but...I forgot. Don's visit to KL was planned months in advance (6 months in advance) to celebrate Hari Raya with my family and me. Hari Raya (Eid) is an annual celebration by Muslim all around the world. It was SO nice to have him here with me to celebrate this festive time and spend quality time together.

I made a detailed itinerary for his visit here, but it all went down the drain. I wanted to give Don the ultimate KL experience, but it was impossible to cover all in the few weeks he was here. It was almost like an Amazing Race itinerary. I forget that we're humans. We get tired and need rest. So, I decided to screw the itinerary and just take is easy. After all, this is not his last visit. There will many other trips to visit more places in KL. We chilled and did what other 'close proximity couples' do. Writing this post is making me miss my man. Oh well! So here's a roundup post of what we did together when Don was in KL with him!

Long-Distance Relationship: Sending Flowers

Tuesday, 22 September 2015

Don has been feeling a little down and upset over a few things happening around him. Me, naturally as a girlfriend felt like I needed to do something to make him feel better. I gave him my ears. I listened to him as he vents out his frustrations and anger. Gave him my opinions and advice. It came to a point where I felt helpless. I felt soo bad that I couldn't anything else except listen.

Get your hustle on

Happy Monday!

I have dreams, goals and plans. Finally, I am at an age where I have the resources to work towards my dreams. It has always been one of my dreams to start a t-shirt line. Back in my uni days, my friends and I would design t-shirts together and sell them at weekend markets. We went on for a few months but slowly disband because we didn't know how to balance work and party.

The World’s Smallest Post Service: Leafcutter Designs Review

Saturday, 19 September 2015

I am a big fan of writing love letters and mailing them the old skool way. I have written Don multiple letters. I think he enjoys receiving them. There is something intimate and personal when you send someone a snail mail. First of all, it has to be handwritten, then you have to go to the post office, then you have to buy your stamp, then you have to mail. It's pretty easy, but sending that text or email is a lot easier, but less meaningful. The kind and lovely people from Leafcutter Design send me "The World's Small Post Service Tiny Mail Kit". Yes, it's a freaking tiny mail kit!! It' mail for miniature people. I felt like a giant when I opened the kit!

I am a HUGE Instagram fan. I love taking photos and love looking at pictures of beautiful things. One of the trends I am seeing now on Instagram is calligraphy. What Do I Miss

Wednesday, 16 September 2015

One of my favourite past times is looking back at old photos of my loved ones and memorable events. I take hundreds of photos monthly and it can be quite hard (and annoying) to store them or go through them. When Facebook came out with their “On This Day” feature, I was a fan! I even went one step further to work on keep track of old photos by downloading the Time Hop app on my phone. A couple days ago, Facebook brought me back one year ago to my graduation day!! I can’t believe it has been a year since I graduated and moved back to Malaysia. As much as I enjoy being in Malaysia with my family and friends, but there is probably not a day that goes by where I don’t miss something about Perth. My second home. It made me miss some of the best things I enjoyed in Perth, so here goes nothing...

What To Expect on Blushingkay

Monday, 14 September 2015

Over the past couple of months, blushingkay’s readership has grown tremendously! So, I thought it would be a great idea to reintroduce myself (again) and share a little about what blushingkay is all about. For starters, my name is Khaira. Hello! Welcome to my humble blog.

When I first started in Blushingkay in 2012, it was a place for me to write about my daily antics, beauty reviews and share my film photography. I want it to be my escape and a place for me to document my "creative" journey. I blogged on and off, and only decided to take blogging more serious in 2014. I am so glad I decided to take blushingkay more seriously because I have met so many amazing people through this blog and have been given so many opportunities. Thank you!

Advice for Long Distance Relationships: Don't Do It!

Tuesday, 8 September 2015

Lomography LCA+

I am in a long distance relationship and I don't encourage you to be in one.

I won't sugarcoat it and anyone in a long distance relationship will also say that same. IT SUCKS BIG TIME. It's not awesome. It's not fun. It's emotionally draining. It's lonely. I especially don't encourage it for people who are in their teens and early 20s (Let's call them "prime years" for the sake of this post, I know everyone has different ages of "prime years"). I feel like long distance (relationships) are done because the couple has to go through it. It's not something you do because you want to. It's because you have to. It's almost like a trap. Now, why would you want to put yourself in a theoretical trap? When you're in your prime years, you're still learning about yourself. You're not 100% sure of what you want.

Breathe, Take it easy

Monday, 7 September 2015

Hello, Monday! I just got home from a 4D3N holiday with my family at Club Med Cherating. Club Med is an all-inclusive holiday resort. Which means... you only pay one time for EVERYTHING. The minute you step in the hotel lobby, your food, drink and activities is FREE! People at the hotel are so nice and friendly. Everyone was kind with their smiles and laughter. I did nothing except swim, eat, drink and sleep. I am sporting a beautiful brown tan and feeling significantly relaxed.

Telling My Long Distance Boyfriend To Not Waste My Time

Thursday, 3 September 2015

Before going to do my Master's degree in Australia, I was working my dream job. I was working for this new, exciting fashion e-commerce startup. It was everything I dreamt of doing. Writing content, co-managing a team, working with amazing, smart teams and seeing how fast the internet world worked. Getting my master's degree has always been a childhood dream. When my enrollment day drew nearer, I was torn between to stay and work or get my master's degree. It was a really hard decision, but I decided to get my master's degree.

September Goals

Tuesday, 1 September 2015

Hello September!

A new month and a new set of goals. Last month, I wanted to work more on my health, blog, and life. I am really proud to say that, I have achieved them all! I have been going for yoga more and eating better. Cutting down on process food and eating more greens. I wanted to blog more about long distance relationships and I did. I've been reading more. Well, not the 4 books I bought last month but other books I managed to finish that I stopped halfway. It's a good month. September is looking to be a good month as well. I am going on a small family trip in a few days. Be sure to follow my Instagram for updates. Let's get September rolling with my monthly goals.
