I know working out can sometimes feel like a chore. It's so hard to get yourself motivated and feel good about yourself. All you want to do is curl up on your bed, cuddle your cat and watch Netflix. I know how it feels. Once upon a time, that was me. I have a big problem. I love food. I love eating good food. Most of the time my definition of eating good food also means... accidentally eating too much. I am very much aware that abs are made in the kitchen, but life is too short to be eating ONLY healthy food!! I want my Nasi Lemak breakfast. I want my beef bowl for lunch. Tom yam with hot rice for dinner. After that, rub my belly and go into a food coma.
Well, such is life. But I can't. I have this thing called low metabolism stopping me. In order for me to eat, I must work out. I either play futsal, yoga or random fitness classes on KFIT. Even though, I play futsal daily. Sometimes, it's really hard for me to say "IN" when the organiser asks me (to play futsal). It's really hard to stay motivated to staying fit, but over the years, I've made friends with my coaches, yogis and instructors. They are wonderful people are always helping me stay motivated and pushing me beyond my limits.
Here are some tips I learned and picked up along the way to stay motivated:
Pretty, colourful workout clothes are my main motivation to workout. I know, kinda materialistic and superficial, but when I am wearing pretty, colourful clothes I feel more confident. I want to show off my outfit by working out harder.
02 Have goals
Personally, I think having goals in life is always a good thing. You work towards something and get a sense of achievement. Start with simple realistic goals then move up as you get stronger.
03 Fitness apps/bands
I wear Miband's fitness band every day to track my steps and sleep. I set it to a realistic target of 8k steps a day. Half way through the day, I always check to see how many steps I've walked. If it's not mid-point, I'll make it a point to walk more or do yoga or gym. Also, whenever I'm lazy to go out from the house to work out, I turn on my Nike+ Training Club and do some of their exercises in my room.
04 Switch up your workouts
There are times when I don't feel like playing futsal or doing yoga. I'll try to switch it up and do something else. Like, electric muscle strength, pilates or crossfit. It can get boring if you keep doing the same thing. When you do other workouts, you also work other muscles! Making double win for you. No pain, no gain!
05 Reward yourself
After an intense futsal session or a refreshing yoga class. I will reward myself with a delicious meal or a delicious pressed juice. Pressed juices here in Malaysia are expensive (RM10-15 a bottle <- I rather spend on coffee). Giving yourself little rewards after a workout is a great incentive!
