The Second Last Day: Pulp Cafe in Bangsar

Monday, 16 November 2015

I didn't want to write this post because it's a cafe/coffee post and I didn't take any photos of our coffee! Such a rookie mistake. The best thing part is, we had three coffees on our table! Two for Don and one for me. I thought I still post these photos up, just because. Don is seriously addicted to coffee. He needs coffee to live. I will never forget my mom's advice - The way to a man's heart is through his stomach! Every morning when he was here in KL, I made sure Don has his breakfast and coffee, so I don't have to worry about feeding him.

Coffee at DR.inc

DR.inc coffee

Dr.inc in Bangsar was one of the cafes I have been dying to check out. It was no surprise after a visit to Central Market and Petaling Street with Don, we stopped by the cafe for a refresher. I've always known that Don is a big coffee drinker, but i didn't know how much he LOVES coffee. After one and half cups of coffee, i would get a caffeine buzz and need to drink lots of water to kill the buzz.

Before our visit to Dr.inc to chill and relax, I took him to Central Market and Petaling Street. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he enjoyed walking around Central Market and Petaling Street. Central Market is an emporium of stalls that sells traditional goods and local handicraft. It's also an historical landmark in Malaysia. It was an HOT hazy day, so it made a lot of sense to go a cafe to chill. Checking out cafes with Don is so much fun because of his coffee appreciation. Once he gets his coffee fix, he doesn't complain and entertains my photo taking antics.

Breakfast Date

Friday, 24 July 2015

My favourite meal of the day is breakfast, but my biggest problem is waking up early for it. I love hearty breakfast/brunches. I usually go savoury in the morning - Big breakfast, Smoked salmon on egg benedict, a bowl of noodles in beef broth or a typical Malaysian-indian breakfast, Roti Canai AND coffee, our vice.

Soon, baby!

motivational quotes

A day away until I am back in Don's arms. I am trying to contain my excitement, but it is so hard! I find myself more productive this week. Things i have been putting off, i managed to get done. Did all my errands! In fact, i have laid out all my outfits and things i'll be needing for the next coming days (it's going to be a busy weekend). That's how excited i am!! (Is there another word for excited?? I feel like i am overusing the word!) I am usually a night owl. I will stay up until wee hours in the morning doing work, writing posts, editing stuff, etc. Now, I am in bed by 12am (this is considered early for me) so the day goes by faster. It's also super cute that my friends are excited for me. Whenever we hang out, they would constantly ask me to bring Don out with them when he gets to KL. It was one of them who gave me the idea of preparing a care package for Don. Something like a welcome package! A care package!

Wicked Pancake Parkour

Saturday, 23 May 2015

Tucked away behind the old Hock Choon (Lorong Batai, Bukit Damansara, now known as Batai Village), is a new pancake cafe, Wicked Pancake Parlour. I went on a dinner date with dearest Joanna, a fellow blogger and ex-colleague. I wanted to try Yellow Brick Road, a cafe below Wicked Parlour Pancake, but it was closed! The next best thing was the cafe above (they are afflicated). The menu consists of variety of pancake dishes and soda floats. If you're on a diet, this is not the place for you. This cafe basically screams sugar, loooots of sugar.

Been feeling off lately, nothing major, just a little off. Like i needed a pick me up or do something for myself. Its funny because work has been good, my weekly activities has been great (winning at futsal, how can that not be good???), family is good and healthy and girlfriends/relationship have been good as well. I had no reason to feel off, but felt sooo shitty, crappy, emotional and needy. At first, i thought i was going through PMS but no, this is a whole different level of PMS. Then i thought... I am a girl, i dont need to justify WHY i am feeling all of the above unless... people around me are complaining (i hope not). Don told me to do something soulful for myself. Like yoga or tai chi -_-" i told him... ice-creams are good for the souls. It was his turn to -_-"

Screw diets (for now) I got my long-craved coconut gula melaka (brown sugar) gelato!!!! i swear to god, it is sooooo good. #sogood

Ice-creams are the best mood swings killer.

DAVIES GROUND

Wednesday, 24 September 2014

Back with another coffee postDavies Ground is just a short walk up from Don's place. It a small cafe decorated with stag antlers, wooden floors, stag chandeliers, good coffee and nice baristas. Don is such a people person, he doesn't talk about the coffee first but he raves about the people working there! That guy is such a lad! The barista is such a young hipster (in a good way, of course!) Every morning after breakfast, we would collect coins around the house, walk over and get a coffee each. I think we tried everything on the coffee menu between the both of us. Their mochas are my favourite! Picture above was my first time trying/loving it, only to have it finished off by Don :(

My LCA has been getting a lot of love and i shot 4 (or maybe 5-6) rolls of nonsense. Cant wait to send them for developing. I dont know about other LCA+ users, after reading (horror) reviews and stories about films coming out blank, i change my batteries every two rolls. Mentioned this to another film loving friend, he called me a freak. Hey, after this happening... I want to make sure my photos come out.

DAILY COFFEE

Saturday, 20 September 2014

Don is a heavy coffee drinker while i am not. I like going to cafes to look at their interior designs and take pictures of them. So this works well for the both of us. The Daily in Swanbourne has a wall of raw bricks at the corner of their shop. I LOVE! Something about brick walls reminds me of my childhood and i find it very comforting. I am caffeine sensitive, one cup of coffee after 4pm, i will be wide awake until 4am.

My tolerance/love for coffee started when i started hanging out with Don. After class, we would go down to a cafe and catch up with our classmates over coffee. I got sick of drinking hot chocolate after a while and decided to just try a latte. i was hooked! I evolved from hot chocolate with soy milk to mocha to flat white and now black coffee with milk. My tolerance is getting way better, I now need (good) coffee in the morning to function better.

Goodness, what a welcome home. I forget how hectic KL is! So lovely meeting up with the girls and just catch up over things in person. I met up with them at a burger joint in Hartamas called Buns. There are so many new cafes popping up every where! The coffee culture and boutique restaurants are coming up here in KL. I am pretty excited to check them out! The minute I got home, i dumped my suitcases and went straight to do my hair and pedicure spa. I had some time to kill while waiting for my mom to run a few errands and i somehow ended up in a Birkenstock store and...walked out with a pair of slippers. I need to get a job ASAP.

Pancakes, oh my!

Thursday, 8 May 2014

Freemantle or Freo is my second favourite place in Perth. i love the weekend markets, filled with food, life and culture. Some times too much buzz that it gets overwhelming! We only walked around the market once (too many people!!!), got a veggie roll and a sushi roll each and walked out from the market. PP (now known as SB) wanted to explore Freo more and check out the hidden lanes. We skipped the whole shopping part of freo and walked along the Notre Dame Uni buildings. We found this quaint office with beautiful door. i love the old rustic look of it and of course, we had to take my OOTD shots there.

I went on a Asos binge a week ago and bought more than i should. i am sucker for Asos deals! I love the fact that i can get 6 items for less than 150 dollars, thats more than i can get at any other shops. i have a secret to tell, most of the items i bought were from the maternity line. I just buy them 2 sizes smaller and no one knows unless i mention it. Hehe!

Since we started our day early and needed our coffe fix and taaadaahhh! We found a cafe at the end of the road. I love finding cafes hidden in a corner, i got a flat white. I have to say it was perfect, my coffee was just nice. i hate it when some cafes overheat the milk. It makes it so unpleasant to drink.

We went all tourist and got on the Ferris wheel. Its my second time on the Ferris wheel and i still dont like heights. SB made me switch places so he can take a picture of me with a view. NOPE, i couldnt do it. Moving capsule at the highest peak. NOPE!

Me fooling around being all mysterious and Star Wars-ish because it was May the 4th. So lame!!

We ended our trip in Freo by visiting my favourite shop in Freemantle, The chart and map shop. My dream is to get a wall sized map in my future home, where i can just stare at it all day, everyday!

We stopped by Coles on the way back, so SB can buy snacks to bring back home. They amount of junk food he bought...was against everything i believed in. I avoided the chips and chocolate aisle for the longest time and walking through was HARD. I wanted everything!!!! i was having a mental fight with myself and had to just get out from the aisle and wait for SB at the end of it.

We ended the day with pancakes! The whole day when we were in Freo, we kept seeing people eating pancakes and it made me crave for it. I decided to just screw my no sugar diet and go for pancakes. Now because my body has had sugar after a long time, it wants chocolates, especially tim tams dipped in milk, rum and raisin ice cream from gelare, coffee with sugar and the list goes on.
Here is a funny incident with my housemate, Mike, he knows i have been off the wagon the past few days, i scroffed down a few tim tams infront of him... (fyi, i am known for the healthy one in the house)

i walked out to the kitchen, took a spoon from the dishrack, went to the freezer, took out my ice-cream and scooped a spoonful,

...just as i was about to put the spoon in my mouth. Mike comes up to me, pulls up his hand out infront of my face and says "NO!". Yep, that did it for me, i dropped the spoon and it was picked up happily by my other housemate. i went back to my room, sad but grateful. at least i wont have him teasing me "onom nom nom nom" with cookie monster gestures whenever i eat sweets.

Lets get drunk tonight!

Monday, 14 January 2013

A couple weekends back, SB and i couldnt decide where we wanted to eat and we thought this is the best opportunity to try something new instead of going to our daily frequents. So we ventured into PJ old town (after getting lost, looking up GPRS and calling for directions) we went to BURGER LAB! Ive been dying to try it ever since ......i cant remember. Too many reviews about burger lab came up in the local food blogs, i had to try it!

We arrived at 5pm on a Saturday. The line crazy, it was until the next shop! It was torturous to wait because people were coming out with their burgers and they smelled heavenly. Sweet greasy and buttery. hhhmmmmmm.... I could see them biting into it, making it worse.

We lined up for about 30mintues to get our order. We both got the Hangover Burger with sharp cheddar set (including fries and drink) and portabello mushroom fries. In total our bill came up to rm68. I was quite taken back by the price but i thought i should at least try it before i say anything.

Random picture of my bright sky blue flats from H&M. At this point, i was getting restless and impatient because of the long line. A hungry Khaira is an unhappy Khaira! You can see SB's storm trooper key chain

SB surprised me with this shirt! Can you guess who is the girl on his shirt? :D He is starting a new tshirt line under the brand Regime, stay tune for that. So...after this picture, i stopped taking pictures because we were moving in the line and was about to order. I wanted to take a picture of the menu, but i was undecisive over what i wanted...and i had to order ASAP because people were waiting. In between of deciding what i wanted and trying to take the camera out....i was so overwhemled, that i didnt take a picture and quickly paid up and moved aside. /sigh. We took our burgers to go.

When we got home, i couldnt be arse to take out my camera again to take a picture because i was SO HUNGRY!!! SB didnt let me eat in the car, even one tiny fry! While SB was fixing up the tv, i dugged in my burger. OH MY GOD, it was orgasmic. Hangover Burger has hash brown, maple syrup in it and i requested for sharp cheddar. The patty melts in your mouth. It sweet and savoury. Writing this is making me hungry. I hope the picture helps give you an idea of how GOOD it is. Man, i cant wait to go back to Burger Lab. It was definitely worth the wait, one hour including waiting for the burgers and definitely worth the rm68!
