Why You Need To Drink More Water

Wednesday, 16 December 2015

The past couple of weeks, I have been unwell. Body aches, sore eyes, stomach cramps, feeling feverish and just overall unwell. The funny thing was I was completely fine one minute and not the next. I thought it was just me, tired from a long night. I went to work like normal and I was still feeling feverish. I went home, took some medication, had a hot porridge for dinner and slept early. Next day, I felt slightly better but still feverish, but I could somehow sense that my body wasn't fighting whatever I was getting as fast as it should. So I went to see a doctor, I explained to her what was happening to my body. At that point, I developed a cold sore - That was a sign of something viral in my body. She asked me to take a urine test to see if I was drinking enough water. Test results showed that I was hydrated. Really hydrated.

She told me to go home, drink electrolytes and rest. All the way home, I wanted to scream and yell at myself for not taking care of my body. I preach to everyone around me to drink LOTS of water. I used to drink 800ml x 2 of water every day and sometimes more. Honestly, I don't know why or when I stopped drinking water. I could say I was busy at work or had no time or just completely forgot, but there are all just excuses.

My body was warning me for weeks, but I chose to ignore them. It started with
  1. Hurting to pee
At first, I thought it was UTI. I drank Ural to fight whatever infection I thought I had. The pain would come and go.
  2. My nails started to brittle
I wanted to paint my nails one day and noticed that most of my nails were peeling. It freaked me out a little and I applied a layer of nail strengthener on them. A few days after that, it was still brittle.
  3. Dizzy spells
I thought it was because I was stretching my meals too far. I started snacking in between meals, but the headaches were still there.
  4. Sleep disturbance
I would randomly wake up in the middle of the night and it would be so hard for me to fall back asleep again. I was tired and sleepy but couldn't find a comfortable spot or get myself be in a comfortable state to fall back to sleep. Only to find out that, my body was craving for water that's why it kept waking me up.
  5. My complexion
Oh boy... My skin looked so dull and tired. I started getting lines underneath my eyes. My makeup would crease in the lines and I would look older. :(
Since then, I have made it a point to always have a water bottle within an arms reach and I must drink 800ml x 2 or more of water daily. Drinking water really helps your body combat diseases and illness as well as balance your body fluids. Our body is made of 60% water and flushes out from your body by sweat, peeing and etc. Drink up to replenish!

Here are some good benefits of drinking (LOTS of) water
  1. Clears up your complexion
  2. Aids with digestions
  3. Promotes weight loss
  4. Fights off sickness
  5. Prevents headaches
  6. Mood lifter
  7. Soothe aching joints and muscles

How many cups of water do you drink a day?
