4 Way To Do A Makeup Detox

Makeup Detox

As a beauty junkie, my makeup collection can get a little excessive. It has become a little overwhelming for me since I hardly wear a full makeup face. My daily routine consists of me sitting in an office the whole day and going home to sleep. There isn't a need for me to wear a full face makeup to work unless I go out and meet clients. Over the years, my collection has (quietly) grown and so has my style. I used to love wearing dark smokey eyes, bold lips and thick eyeliners. Now I prefer to wear no-makeup makeup and keeping everything simple and fresh looking. I have many unused makeups and I am finding it really hard to let it go! I have an emotional attachment to them, but I need to grow up and let things go, starting with my makeups.

Here are my tips on how I went on my makeup detox:

Makeup Detox
3/4 of the things I got rid off

01 A Makeup Ban
This is a very important step to start a makeup detox. STOP BUYING MORE MAKEUPS.

I went on three months makeup ban before I started my detox. I wanted to try out all the makeups I have again to see I really like them or needed them. Banning myself from buying makeup helped me lessen my collection. If not, I would just be adding things on the pile and will only use my new makeups instead of the ones I have. I am no longer on my ban since I have better self-control and I lost this need to buy more makeup (for now.)

02 Reshuffle
Taking the cue from above, as soon as I stopped buying makeups. I started reshuffling my makeup. Making sure that I use every single foundation I have, pressed powder, blusher, lipstick on a daily rotation. Doing this reshuffle, I found many makeups I forgot I had! Even if you are not on a makeup detox, this is a good habit to have. Always make up it a point to reshuffle your products daily, so every product you own gets used.

03 Throw them out
Oh boy, this was the hardest part for me. Throwing things out. I know some of my makeup have expired, but they have pretty packaging that I want to keep for memory sake. I had many moments of "I will keep this, just in case". Luckily, the OCD in me was stronger and threw out whatever that was old and expired. It felt so good to see my dressing table clear up and I feel much lighter after.

04 Self-control
One of the reasons why I kept on buying more and more makeup that I don't need them is because I have no self-control. I am like a magpie, I get attracted to shiny things. Most makeup packaging are gorgeous and shiny! Over time, I realised that I needed to adult and practise self-control. I stopped buying makeup just because it's the latest eyeshadow palette or latest lip colour and etc. I now get what suits my skin and my personality.

Are you planning to do a makeup detox? I have gotten rid of half my makeup collection by doing the steps above.
